HI Guys,

Anyone with any information on where to find a 1.5 petrol engine would be greatly appreciated.

She over heated the other night when all the water dumped after a frost and it didnt register on the temp guage.

Shes been my trusty steed for 10 years and throughout my house build which i am right in the middle of so desperate to get it back on the road as soon as!!

Any help would be grately appreciated! IMG_20171128_1430304.jpg

Sorry but I can't help on the engine but just so you know a 1.6, or 1.8 will also fit straight into your car. VW used the 1.6 and 1.8 in the Mk2 golf's, mk1 and mk2 Scirocco and Jetta as well so it may widen your search.

1988 Mk1 Golf GTi Cabriolet 1.8cc DX, K-jet. Daily drive. 317,000 miles and counting
1978 Mk1 Scirocco GLS 1.6cc FR, Webber carb. Weekend toy.

whip the head off and take it to a local machine shop/engineering firm to have it skimmed and tested. refit with new gasket set. cant get any more original than that ;)

Also you will need new Head bolts.  Also there are head stud kits which are re-usable unlike head bolts.

well it'll cost nothing to have the head off for a look, generally its just the head that wants looking at. local place will be able to look at it and tell you if its worth saving before you spend any money I'm sure
