Coil positive connections

On my mk1 GTi there are two wires running to the coil positive.
A black one which runs 12v switched and a white/lilac tracer.
What is the white/lilac wire and should it be there?

Am having problems with fuel pump relay which is triggered by
coil and want to eliminate this as a -ossible problem.
Any assistance very much appreciated.
