Choke warning light

Hi guys

1.3 1983 golf, the choke warning light won't come on when I pull choke out , it was wired up with brown and brown/yellow wires to choke pull , I disconnected these as in pic .
There was no power in either wire but the lamp has power from black wire when ignition on.
The bulb at the bottom is the handbrake and works ok
But the other doesn't there is no power from the brown/ yellow and gray/ green wire .. should there be?
