Chassis / V5 problem

Hi all,

Just checking through the V5 for my 83 GTI and it seems the 9th digit which I think is the Manufacturer's Internal Code is different to the chassis number on the rain tray.

The V5 has it s a 2 but the rain tray is clearly a Z. Could this be common or is it more likely a typing error from the DVLA?

Meant to be getting a replica vin plate as well and don't want the wrong code on it!

I've heard about that happening before with VW's as they often have Z's in amongst numbers. Its simply a DVLA error.

That is the same on mine. Once I get the car finished I'll tell the DVLA. I had it on an old mini before and the police came to inspect and approve it.

yes Z is a filler character on the VW VINs, it means nothing. so it'll be a typo on the V5, personally I wouldn't worry too much about it so long as the important characters all match up
