Changed main fuel pump now will not start

Post

MK1 golf cab 1987.
Changed main pump underneath the car.
Car does not want to start. Assume it's due to fuel lines being empty.
How much priming will it need?

Should not take that long, less than a minute if that.

Are you getting fuel at the metering head in the engine bay?

assume not - car was running prior to changing pump.

Have you checked lift pump in tank that it's picking fuel, should make a sound.

i normally prime , 3 to 4 times… and then even put easystart/brake cleaner in the intake to get car ticking over till fuel gets there.
if still issues check non return valve in right way… on pump..  and that power cables not in reverse, should be different sizes to prevent mix up. but  still possible.

On the drive

How did you solve it?
The car is a 1.8 cabriolet 1987. I have never heard the lifter or main pump prime only heard the main pump when car is running.

The lifter pump was changed a couple of weeks ago. Had no issues with that but trust would not have affected the accumulator.

Perhaps not giving it long enough
