What car you got and what carb is fitted, original Pierburg or a Webber?

1988 Mk1 Golf GTi Cabriolet 1.8cc DX, K-jet. Daily drive. 317,000 miles and counting
1978 Mk1 Scirocco GLS 1.6cc FR, Webber carb. Weekend toy.

The car is a 1980 mk1 golf S1 all original solex 31 pict 5 carb, the cars been stood in a dry garage for 25 years, the car starts and runs but won't run without the choke on, l believe it's the choke side in the carb and needs stripping and cleaning, there is a kit to referb it and was looking for somebody to do it or somewhere to take it for them to do thanks

If it only idles on the choke, try loosening the idle jet on the right side of the carb. Nothing will pour out, you can unscrew it and soak/blast clean it and put it back in. DId the trick on mine. The idle jet is the slotted hex screw in the middle, with a little ball inside. Allt klart 001.jpg

It's just a sealing plug. On small block engines I think there's also an additional jet behind it, but not on my 1.6. It's actually still available from vwclassicparts part nr 113 129 419
