Cam belt cover gasket/underlay 049109271 ?????

Post

Reassembling my engine after a rebuild.

I note on the parts list that where the stud and bolt hold the backing plate behind the cam belt (1.8 DX engine) the parts list shows a "gasket/underlay" - part number 049109271

No such part was fitted when removing the cover and I dont think I have ever seen one fitted.

I see they are available online but appear to be metal??

Finally I cant see quite what it does and why its needed????

Item 27 in the diagram below

Any clues out there?????

Havng recently re-built my DX I can confirm that
a) I didn't have one, and
b) I didn't bother putting one in

I've rebuilt 3 DX engines over the years, and never seen that part fitted.

basically its just there to fill a gap. from memory is needed on later engiens when fitting to a mk1, as there is a gap under the 2 fromt5 bolts holding engien bracket to car. some metal inner plates '7' have this spot welded in place.

this is all going from my vague memories when fitting the KR engine to my mk1 cabrio as i needed one

see the kinked out bit on the bracket here:
