Starting problem

Can anybody help shed some light on my problem ?
Battery good, turnover a few times and the battery goes dead, even put a new battery in (bigger ampage) and it still discharges after a few attempts.
This problem has now started in Bens mk1 also !
Any advice much appreciated

Do you have an alarm of some kind or other because they can be the cause of that, Stereos as well.
As for Ben's Mk1 having the same problem all of a sudden, I'm not sure it's an airborne disease but who knows these days!

Will look into that the stereo is always on so might try and isolate it.

as for "airborne" you could be right he's just put it in the garage with the caddy

Try putting a volt meter across the battery 🔋 and take a range of reading to see how much is going in and what the drain is with the key out etc…

Should give you some idea of where to look! 👍

aye is a great guide makes it nice and simple :)

top suspects are radio, boot light and old alarm/immobilisers

your battery might just be knaackered, our bora one got so bad it was dead as a doornail a couple hours after taking it off charge, and I hadn't even hooked it back up to the car

Mine has a issue where it starts up after couple attempts when cold then I leave it idling for a good 20 minutes ( whilst I'm doing stuff) then as soon as I pull off its dead then I need a jump start to get it to start again, after that it behaves, battery is good I believe as I now have put it in the Mercedes 500sl, and she fires up ok, lol might be airborne or the engineers at vw want their GTI back

Thanks for the replies, it is a brand new battery and I have tried to start it again today and the same problem dead after 20 seconds or so,forgot to add that I have an isolator connection on the negative terminal of the battery and I disconnect this when leaving the caddy so surely it can't be a drain when the isolator is undone, can it ?

Take your starter motor off and check it's not seizing up, you should be able to turn it by hand.
