Cabriolet Headliner measurements please.

Hi Guy's

When you're next in the car could you do so measuring for me please.
With your roof up take a measurement of the distance between the sewing seams on the middle panel of the Headliner.

Also can you note your year of car.
Example
1988 17 1/2 inches

If you're car is an 86 year and if you know the month it was built that would be amazing.

You can use the vin decoder on here the info on month is on the paper sticker on the cross rail in the boot.

Thanks

There are 3 different styles based on years and frame types.

I do know that you can move the one bar a wee bit closer as there is another hole in the side frame for fitment… But I have never tried that. I thought it was for the different types of frames the 17" to the 19" IIRC it was on the front bar….

Headliners

Be aware that there are 3 different types of headliners sold by most suppliers.  The one your car uses depends on the car's year (measure the seam distance of your existing headliner).  Volkswagen lists just two headliners, however:
I always measured the distance prior to ordering.

From Cabby-info.com

1979 - 1981
Seam: 16 inches
VW part #155871047A
1982 - 1986 (mid-year)
Seam: 17¾ inches
VW part #155871047B
1986 (mid-year) - 1993
Seam: 19¼ inches
VW part #155871047B

There in lies the problem.
I know of the different sizes
No cabby I’ve worked on is 19 inches odd between seams.

I’ve had 2 headliners from the same supplier supposedly for 86-93 cars.
Yet one was too small the other too big.
So I’m looking for the info pooled directly off peoples cars.

I replaced both of my Headliners, and didn't have a issue by year.

But I will measure them both as one is a 92, and the other a 93.

Distances of the bars center to center
93 Frame (off a 89) my 93 was horribly bent so I swapped it off my 89 parts car.
Front Bow to Middle 14"
Middle Bow to Rear 17 3/4"

92 Frame
Front Bow to Middle 14"
Middle Bow to Rear 17 3/4"

93 seam to seam is 18 1/2
92 seam to seam is 18 1/2

I suspect it depends on how you wrap it around the bar, from the front of the car to the back or the back of the car to the front.

I ordered one kit from Cabrioworld with the horse hair padding.

The other I ordered from topsonline and used foam.

I also remember that one site I was looking to order from required you to measure the distances between the bars and order appropriate headliner.
