Cabby waistline

Post

Hey guys,

I've a 85 gti clipper cabby in the middle of a cosmetic overhaul- am I right in saying the correct waistline trim is the thicker one?  (that's what's been on it)

And, is there a physical difference to the channel in the panels in which it sits compared to a tin top?

I just offered up a skinny one too it and it looked a bit lost, but I'm not sure if that's just different to what I'm used to or if it was never designed to be on there.

Thanks

Andy

85 did not come in a Clipper variety.
85 did not have the thicker waist line trim that the
Clipper came with.

A clipper cabby (true clipper) prior to 1990 had a Thicker Chrome centered black outside waist line trim that was held into place by white plastic with washers clips.
The 1990-93 Clippers has a "solid black waist line trim that was held in place with the same pre-90 clips.

The OEM Clipper  versions waist line trims fit in to the same channel that all GOLFS/Rabbits of the mk1 Variety had…

Yes I am aware that yall over there had a bunch of different versions and such, so I am basicallly stating that the obvious term for the Clipper variety that we saw over here in late 87-93.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Thanks!

Well I already look like the n00b I am- I have always had in my head a 'D' plate was 85. but it's pretty clearly on the v5c from Jan 87.  What a very obvious thing to have wrong  :$

I'd always taken it at face value the clipper kit was factory fitted, but  now the more I look, the more I realise (spurred on by your reply) that's probably not the case- my car is single headlight grill too.
