Cabby seat base

Hi i have a 1991 clipper cabriolet i have purchased 2 seat base foams from vw heritage after they reccomend they were right for the car and to be fair they are one piece same as fitted originally but they dont look the same, has any one had experience of these do the foams need cutting to make fit right? Its like they are just out of the mould not quite finished if that makes sense
