This looks like a tintop one, cabby ones are the shorter ones, you sure you didn't just need a longer bit of hose?
Tintop ones don't sit flush on the cap side.
I changed mine for a proper caby one after the previous owner had fitted a tintop one. I had to buy a longer bit of hose to join to the tank.

Yes that's a tintop filler neck, you can get them to fit but they need a section cut out and the end re welded on.
I had no problems with the filler cap end fitting, it's no different to the original one fitted.
I did read you could bend the tintop one to fit but you can't as I tried that 1st.
Cabriolet filler necks are availed but they are pricy compare to tin top ones, about 3 or 4 times the cost!
Have a look at my thread as I fitted a tin top filler neck last year. https://vwgolfmk1.org.uk/forum/index.php?page=topicview&id=projects%2Fyour-mk1-golfs_2%2Fmy-daily-drive-1988-gti&kfs79=120
Buy a new rubber hose between the filler neck and tank as they go brittle over time and 2 new jubilee clips is also a good idea.
Plenty of protection on the new filler neck will make it last a lot longer.

I did this a few years back on my cabby, I used the tin top, cut and bent it. It fits and works fine and I've been under the car recently and all still looks well. I wouldn't recommend it though, as you have to bend the pipe to such an extent it's not far from breaking. Oh, and no issues at the cap end either.
