Blowing Downpipes

Post

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help. Bought an OEM downpipe, had it fitted and it was blowing from the manifold to downpipe seal. So, bought another manufacturer's downpipe, fitted and same problem.

Has anyone any idea why this would be? I have a 1.6 carb cabriolet with the c clips on the  manifold to downpipe.

Many thanks in advance for any advice.

Was a new gasket fitted? Also the existing clips might have become stretched?

Are you sure the manifold isn't cracked, been a long time since I had one of these manifolds but I seem to remember changing one because of cracks when I was a youngster!

Is the gasket the correct size and a tight fit on the manifold?

Make sure your pipe hangers are good, and that your pipe is aligned, Engine and tranny mounts can cause this type of issue.

I have never seen a toilet bowel exhaust manifold crack, as they are beefier than the ones on the 90's cabriolets as I have had 3 that were more cracked than a politician.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?
