BAM engine loom and plugs!

Post

I'm in the middle of fitting the engine loom back into the car this morning and having trouble locating a few of the sockets for them to plug into!

Does anyone know of a source/whereabouts of the info I need? I've been Googling for the last hour without any luck.

Pictures of the plugs you are trying to locate can help up help you as I know that there are a few on my 93 that are spare, and go no-wheres…..

left or right side of car, front or rear of engine are all nice to know as well as the color of the wires and howmany in the socket plug.

Thanks Briano for the help, I'm getting there slowly and the guy who made the loom is helping but I don't want to keep phoning and asking dumb questions!
I was thinking there might be some images online with an idiots guide lol. I'll take some images and some notes and post up here.
To make things worse it's a bam in the car but I've put a MK 2 dash and loom in it and it looks like the oil sensors are the wrong type of connector and the brake switches are on the master cylinder.

There's 3 plugs I think under the inlet manifold.

Does it go to one of those?

The one above is the last one I missing a home for at the moment!
The other two were the knock sensor (the switch/plug is missing from the engine block) do I need it?? and the other was under the throttle body.

There is the throttle body position switch.
lets the ECU know that the butterfly is off the rest position.

If you have a knock sensor then that can tell the engine to lean or enrichen the fuel to stop pinging from cheap gas,

I'll not worry about the knock sensor at the moment.

Done you know where the plug in the image goes?

there is no separate throttle switch on the 20v, its built into the throttle body motor assembly.

the later 20v have a pair of 2 pin knock sensors, you need both of them.

what are the wire colours on all the plugs you cant ID. that one might be the inlet air temp sensor, is it blue/green and brown/blue?

I've got a plug/socket connected on the side of the cam belt housing, the plug is a right angled affair, where does the 2 pin plug goes that is in the picture?

All plugged in now thanks.
Now to the headlamp loom! Looks like the one I have from the MK2 has everything, headlamp, side, main, fog, washer, wiper, indicators, side repeater and all I need is headlamp, side and indicator.
I also need to add the fan switch  which I'm guessing is the 3 pin socket built into the radiator and the brake light switches which are on the master cylinder?

fan wiring is in the headlight loom as well, look for the 2 pin plug with red and brown. the mk2 fan & thermoswitch loom plugs into that so ideally get the right loom to match your fan and switch (or just the switch if aftermarket fan)

brake light switches are on the master cylinder on the tintop, later cab/rocco moved the switch to the pedal box same as the mk2 one is so thats an option. either way if you have the CE1 fusebox the brake switch wiring is on a 2 pin plug hanging off the yellow headlight loom so easy peasy.

The OE loom/box was the bullet type.
I'm pretty sure I don't have an additional loom for the fan switch, didn't know what I needed when I purchased the mk2 stuff! 0C247086-F4FB-448D-9787-14E8CB5ACB0F.jpeg I have 2 after market fan and a 3 pin socket on the left hand side of the rad.
What cables do I need to run to/from the 2 brake switches?

While you're on, can I be cheeky?
I've run in the sender and fuel pump  loom but the sender plug is 2 pin and the socket on the top of the  tank has 3 pins and the fuel pump has 4 pins and my pump looks like the image, the red and yellow wire when back to the old loom/ecu, what do I do with the 4 wires to the pump?

have a look for the plug I mention, it'll be near the passenger side headlight. then either bag yourself a mk2 fan loom, or just make your own. red wire on plug to switch, wire from slow speed pin on switch to fan(s), earth from fan to the brown wire on plug.  You can replace the thermoswitch with a 2 pin one to make life easier. for the 3 pin, its the red and red/white pins like so:

for the fuel pump you have a live and earth pin, just 4 thin wires have been used instead of 1 thick if you get me.  Look closely at the pump for markings, pop the boots might be underneath.

the loom you have is for tintop or non-gti with just a level sender, and you have a lifter pump in the tank so you need to run power to that to the same place as the main pump live.

where the pump wires go depends on which fusebox it is, original mk1 or have you put the mk2 one in? take a pic if unsure.
