At idle smokes a lot

Post

Hi all, I was running my car today just to warm it up and make sure fan and everything worked as it should, but since from starting to me switching it of it constantly was smoking a lot. I let the fan kick in to and it was still there. It was white smoke, not tint of blue at all. What could be causing this. Thanks in advance.

Does it smell sweet?

As a cars exhaust will cause condensate in the silencer that has to be burned off, and may take 15 to 20 minutes as it depends on how much condensation there is.

If it is sweet smelling then that could be a/f.
which could mean a bad head gasket.

Normal for white smoke when the weather is cold and damp.
Take the car for a good run to burn of the condensation in the exhaust and engine.

Weather here was good bright and warm. But it was smelling like oil burning smell also there was no pressure build up in radiator pipes or other signs, also fan kicked in also around half way on temp gauge.

Blue is oil, black is running rich, white is water.

Are you losing any coolant?

The coolant hoses should pressurise and get hot when the car is running….

I would not worry about it, as the car is not being driven and only started and running I guess it's just condensation.
See what happens when you get it on the road.

Its H2O. From google;
Hydrocarbon combustion refers to the type of reaction where a hydrocarbon reacts with oxygen to create carbon dioxide, water, and heat. Hydrocarbons are molecules consisting of both hydrogen and carbon. They are most famous for being the primary constituent of fossil fuels, namely natural gas, petroleum, and coal.

Leaving idling is not ideal. Runs rich during the warm up stage is wasteful of petrol and it gets swilled down the bores washing the oil away causing wear and ends up in the oil.

Water fills the exhaust and rots from the inside out.

Other bits (gearbox, suspension, steering etc) don't get a work out.

This is the same as Milky Oil, if you run the car for only short hops, like 10 minutes to the store and back you never really get it up to temp to burn the condensate out of the oil/exhaust and they tend to smoke white for 20-30 minutes.  Same with idling the engine in the garage.
I never really gets up to operating temp….and that will add to the condensation when you have turned the car off as you are adding to it..
