Anyone know where this connector goes?

I've lost the label off this brown wire with a 2 pin connector on it.  Anybody know what it's for and where it goes please.  Could it be coolant level sensor?

I might be wrong but looks more like the connection I have that goes to the side of the engine

You don't say what model/year the car is but the Haynes manual for 1981 GTi shows the water level sensor having a brown and a yellow/red pair going to it. Unfortunately I have found that the wiring colours do not always match my car!

what colour are the wires? I can have a look on mine and then cross ref with my Haynes this evening. (I'll be doing some wiring repairs anyway). That said, I have a sneaky suspicion it's the same wire I was looking at thinking - "where the hell does that go?"

Is the connector covered by a black rubber sleeve?If so it looks like the one that goes to brake master cylinder reservoir

I have 2 of those connectors on mine.
Blue with brown stripe and brown is the brake fluid level. It's in a black sleeve. The other one looks to be blue/red with brown in a light brown sleeve. I can't find a wire that colour in the Haynes diagram covering 83 onwards. It is shown on golf cabs from 84 and is the coolant level. Mine doesn't have a coolant level thingy on the tank.

You're right Jason, it's a red/blue wire and a brown wire in a brown sleeve.  I think it's all pointing towards the coolant level sensor so that's great.  There's literally nowhere else for it to go!!
