Anyone know what this is ?

Anyone know what this is and why it has a plug on it .its off my intake manifold. On my 1990 cabriolet carb version .ive upgraded to a weber 32/34dtml. So will it still need to be plugged in .? And what purpose does it perform?  Regards Dean

I think its called the hedgehog, not sure what it does, but if it has a wire is it a heater of some sort...

Does it not belong in the air intake? Below the carb

Pretty sure it's a heater to stop carb icing up. No idea if you need it for different carb.

It was attached to the bottom of the intake manifold im doing my cylinder head gasket so ive taken it off to have the manifold media blasted.

It’s a pre heat to allow the fuel the not condense on the inlet manifold I think.

The theory being that when cold it reduces actual file in the cylinder and makes it harder to start then floods it with liquid fuel is what I have been told in the past.

Not certain how effective or needed it is  and could be total BS.
