Anti rattle springs on front calipers.

Post

I fitted reconditioned front calipers on my 1983 1.8GTI and also new discs and pads but could not get the anti rattle springs to fit. The car is standard but In the Haynes manual it mentions that earlier cars had a different spring to later cars. Mine has the later springs but I wondered if the calipers are earlier ones. There just isn't enough room to fit the spring between the pad and the caliper so it doesn't put any tension on them. I have also noticed recently at speeds up to about 35 mph that I get a knocking from the front passenger wheel that goes when I press the brake pedal so I'm assuming that the pad is touching the disc when I'm driving.
Hoping someone can offer some advice.
Thanks.

These are the springs I have.

How to install them is here: Brake Anti-Rattle clip how to. | VW Vortex - Volkswagen Forum.

I also use the RED Brake Quiet Goo, on the edges of the Piston of the Caliper, and a drop on the fingers.
It keeps the rattle away…

Thanks for the links Briano1234 , I've got them fitted now. I also had to file the pads slightly because there wasn't enough room to actually fit the springs in.  It's made a massive difference though. I'll see how I get on and maybe I'll get some goo as well.

Briano1234 , I have bought some of the brake quiet goo and used it on my front calipers. That stuff is amazing and has made my front brakes a lot quieter! thanks for the tip, it's much appreciated!

I gotta share a secret…. I couldn't find my little red bottle of goo, so I went of to Napa to buy a new one.  Well I picked up a few other things and felt something falling out of my right hand… (I had a stroke 20 years ago, left side of the brain so I am all right now… but I don't feel things like I used to on my right side, I feel my grip loosen So Immediately grasp things tighter.. Some times I have to take my foot off the brake to feel it… Anyways ya had to know the back story…)  As I am increasing my grip…. I guess the red goo was being pushed to it's limits, and the cap shot off the end and red goo shot about 4 feet….
I quickly put that one down and got a new bottle paid and got out of there.
