Alternator tensioner to cylinder head mount/housing Help

Post

 Hi Guys,

I have a small issue on my '88 Cabriolet Gti.

Through removal and refitting, i've noticed that the housing on the cylinder head that mounts the alternator belt tension arm has partly threaded as the bolt will only go in so far and twists at an awkward angle, leaving the tension arm insecure. I have tested with similar spare bolts and all have trouble in securing, so have concluded it must be the threading in the cylinder head mount.

Is there anyone who knows a part number for the mount? Or somewhere I can find a replacement? Or a genius solution to the threading issue?

Image shows the insecure bolt and, as per the diagram, I believe the part I need is labelled as 23.

Many thanks!

That is the lifting Eye Bracket bolt.
I would replace it with a longer grade 8 bolt then nut it on the back side of the lifting eye with a locking nut.

That bolt on my Rabbit Diesel would loosen and once it fell out. After replacing the bolt and placing a nylon locking nut I never had that issue.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?
