Adjusting Cabriolet Windows

Post

The windows on my cabby don't sit right. It's as though the back of the window needs to drop slightly. Is there adjustment for this?

There's slight gaps at the front too.

Thanks in advance

Every nut and bolt adjusts the windows one way or another.

Prior to any and all adjustments are the seals themselves.  The seals on the frame are in Trays, you can pop them in and out easily for the rear and middle, but you have to start in the middle and work towards the ends to keep the end caps in place.

You need to look at the screws, they are in a slot.  The trays should be at the most outside position on the screws.  So that the seals will contact the glass, and makes the adjustments on the glass easier.

You need to address any sag to the door.

If the door isn't hanging correctly, then that is why your adjustments are out to begin with.

Only when the door isn't sagging can you proceed with adjustments.

Then and only then you need to roll the window down and back up.

The window needs to seal not only at the top, but the rear edge of the seal.

The rear edge is adjusted by moving the 2 bolts at the bottom of the door in or out towards the inside of the cabin in relation to movement.
Moving the bolt to the outside of the door makes the glass tighter to the seal while moving it inside makes the glass move away from the seal.

The Glass should engage and roll gently in to the seal at the top, so that if you shut the door with the top up it doesn't push away from the door on the rear edge.
There isn't but about 1/16 to 1/8 of a roll in of the top edge of the glass to the seal.

The window stop helps to get the window to the right height, that is the center bolt with the large washer.

The engagement of the window seal to the glass at the ends is usually controlled by the bolts that hold the glass to the regulator, you can take either end up or down.

Now here is a list of How-to's with photos of every thing mentioned above, yes you have to browse them all, but every leak and adjustment is mentioned.

How I install convertible tops shows you the seal trays, and where the adjustments are, the front "a" pillar is glued at the front, but the rear 4 screws are adjustable and should be moved to the outside.  If you take the Trays out, clean the foam, and apply new. Even is you have to move them take them off and clean and apply new foam.  Do not honk down and super tighten the screws you will only strip the nylon keepers.

Looks like both your side tension cables have broke as the roof should sit lower than it is in your pictures.
Common problem for them to snap, it's possible to change them with the roof in place.

Check and feel if there is any tension in the sides of the roof, if you 1/2 open the roof you can see where the cables attach.

Hey folks. I've finally got myself an old cabriolet. The one I've dreamed of since I was a kid… So, I need your advice on car shades. We've got a newborn baby, so to protect him from the UV, I'd like to tint my car or at least get a couple of shades. Does it make sense in a cabriolet?

When I had my 81 tin top, I used the roll out self sticky tint from a car parts place,  it kept the sun out of my back half, as they frowned on it for the front windows.
Kept my little ones from the sun. It also kept the police from seeing my baby daughter when she took her favorite position, on top of the parcel shelf.

Hey there! Congrats on getting your dream car, that's awesome! As for the car shades, definitely a smart move with a newborn. I'm not sure about a cabriolet specifically, but I've had success with the stick-on shades that cover the entire window. They're easy to install and remove, and they're pretty affordable too. Another option could be getting your windows tinted, which would provide more permanent UV protection. I'm not sure about the laws in your area regarding window tinting, so make sure to check on that before making a decision. Personally, I have window shades in my car, and it's OK. Hope this helps.
