I'd also adjust the cable at the engine end to leave a bit of slack when the pedal is fully depressed…..

Itd probably need a re-inforced bracket.
Also it had plenty of slack, but the grommets had gone so im not sure if its sheered because of that or its just co-incidence.
Ill take it to a local garage tomorrow, but I managed to source a used one for £15 which'll come next week.

Can't imagine how a steel rod that thick could break simply pulling a cable under hardly any tension?
Perhaps the cable had been badly adjusted previously causing the initial fracture or poss it was the sideways twist being applied 100 of 1000s of times over the years??

Early-1800 - I actually snapped it because it was bent,l and I tried to straighten it. I only used my bare hands though no tool, but yes you can see rust in the fracture so im assuming a fault.

That one on ebay is only £25 quid, i would maybe just go that route if its looking the same as yours?
had a look at mine, its not going to have to take that much force - i think even a amateur weld would hold it TBH - maybe a good chance to learn yourself?
Watch a few vids on youtube and practice on some scrap for a weekend and you should be able to put down a basic glob weld good enough to grind back hold that together, watching the video and messing about on scrap is a great way to see how to do it while having a laugh at the same time! - but to weld properly is a real time learnt skill.
but for a amateur - remember the old saying, a grinder and paint will make you the welder you aint!
i presume you will have a hand-me-down stick welder? - here is a good video to go through the bits - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fUAHkUfTps

Main issue ive seen that Ive had to put up with since I bought it is the monstrosity of acc linkage. This is an improvement on the original from when I got it but I think its probably time to sort it out once and for all.
ahhh, so there are previous issues that prob did for the fracture in the pedal…..

Did a re-tune onthe carb and its amazing how much power I have now everything is setup properly.
All sorted, job done. Still have to fix my handbrake cable which snapped last week though. 😄
