This car one problem after other
got my bigger 40mm alloy radiator fitted with twin fans
 was only running 5 mins before boil over even with single fan running
now it runs 1 hr ish before boiling over not tried on road
it's fitted with kenlowe fan switch which is ajustable temp
temp at boiling gauge is half way and according to fan switch 85'c 😧😩😩
but turn fan switch down so fan cut in it does drop temp gauge fans drop out
but can feel air in top hose bouncing on idle over flow pipe to header tank water is spitting not constant running unless put revs on
but then temp goes back up instant
I have just removed thermostat not tried yet letting cool off before trying agin

Have you selected full on the heater to ensure airlock is not caught on the matrix. What rad was on it before and how did it run?

Yer heater hot.  All pipes hot
Was just the 16 gti radiator

Weird for just a rad change to cause overheating. Wondering is head gasket ok sorry. Have you checked oil cap for signs of water ?

No was bad before changed rad why changed it
No signs of it mixing

From cold you can start it with in 2 mins of running it hot hose hot
Hard to tell if  using water don't want let get to hot

If it is getting that hot that fast it suggests more direct heat than just that transferred by the block. Is it getting s lot of pressure in the expansion tank really fast from cold?

No would say ok as heaters spot on if water pump would have problems with heater

Ok let's be logical top and bottom hoses hot on radiator. In and out the Matrix hot and expansion tank hot so it would suggest no airlock unless bottom hose cold.

I try that tomorrow thanks
I pulled water pump and housing off engine
All good plastic blade type but still all good no blocks
My last engine in car done this when fitted but that was hole in engine blocked were water pump bolts to block

a common on if using the abf top hose is the thin hose to the header tank blocks at the T junction to the top hose, you can use a mk4 plastic upper rad hose T part after cutting out the mk3 T part to fix this
