82 Mk1 Gti - rear brake and drum replacement issue

Post

Hi all

i am currently replacing the rear brake kit and drums on my Mk1.

After successfully Replacing the rear brakes and pressing the inner bearing on the drum into position , I found that the rear drum wouldn't fit over the brake shoes. I tried the old drum also and encountered the same issue.

Any advice here folks or why this might happen?

Im making the assumption that I had all the correct parts in the overhaul kit.
Thanks
Den

there is a self adjusting wedge that needs to be pushed up before fitting the drum Dsc05194.jpg

Thanks for that.

Will it not just fall down again once pressure off of this ?

Will this push the shoes in which will push the shoes in ?

Is there a certain technique of will it just push up by hand ?

Thanks again
Denis

Screw driver and a small hammer, just tap the wedge all the way up. Once the drum is on and done up press the pedal hard several times as when the shoes are pushed hard against the drum the spring will pull the wedge back down to adjust the shoes.
