22mm brake upgrade query

Post

Hi all,

Considering doing a brake upgrade but just a couple questions. I've got a 9 inch brake servo, 22 mm master cylinder and 256 mm brake set up for the brake upgrade and have read the guide on shortening the threads for the clevis. Just a couple questions for the following:

- Do the rest of the brake pipes set up stay original? As in can i leave my residual valves in place with my rear load compensator?

- Or does the 22 mm M/C require you to use proportioning valves instead and get rid of the residual valves and rear load compensator? I'm using drums on the rear so hope think i can leave the original set up just wanted to be sure.

Thanks

Yeah the valves are purely for the rear drums i believe , so keep them if keeping the drums

Yep, keep residual valves and load compensator. You may have to do some new pipework up front depending on how many outlets you have on your MC.

My rebuild thread I will try and keep up to date: here

on my cabrio I removed the residual valves as I went with rear disc upgrade, which was handy for me. I put mk2/3 golf brake line T pieces where the valves used to be, and moved the brake light switches here. that meant the original brake lines could be fitted right to the brake master without any modifications

tbh even with rear drums you can probably get shot of the valves, mk2/3 golf dont use them and the rear cylinders are the same on mk1 and mk2 and you've got bigger brakes up front than any mk1/2 with drums :)
