16v WUR advice

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been asked before, I'm looking to upgrade to a 16V WUR for my 8v DX engine and just wanted to check which ones to look out for?

Is it just standard KR warm up reg?  Other than drilling out the back are there any other modifications which need to be made to it?

To get the full effect you are supposed to use the larger 16v throttle body and enlarge the inlet fanimold to match.

Hi, I found fitting a set of 16v injectors helped the power curve a little as well, a small difference but worthwhile if you have a set. Do you have any other engine mods, it really starts to help if you running a bit lean.

You can modify the standard WUR you have to be adjustable, I didn't know this until I saw it on Wheeler Dealers recently, you need to drill and tap the little brass plug and fit a small bolt. Can't remember which episode, a recent one with Ant.

I think it was a Porsche 944 or 924.

I've done both mods on mine - drill the brass plate at the back so you can adjust the warm pressure, and one at front (a bit more work involved) to do the cold pressure. I know most folk get away with just the warm pressure adjustment mod as it is easier.

This removes the need to tap the plug to set the cold pressure - like the chap is doing in this vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65-03E4UXWg 
He doesn't adjust the 'warm pressure, but this would be done with the rear mod.

Of course, you need a pressure test kit to do it. I'm trying to make one up, just waiting on a couple of connectors, but if it works, I'll be sharing the parts list.

Hi guys,

thanks for the responses, i managed to get a KR WUR with the back already drilled out so happy with that.

Just have another query if anyone can help please, my 16v throttle body doesn't have a vacuum pipe like some of the other larger throttle bodies, is this normal? I know the 16v WUR has the vacuum pipe and have seen plenty of throttle bodies with a vacuum pipe. Is this going to effect anything?

The holes in the image are blanked off so it's not like the pipe has just disappeared.

Mine was the same. On my 83 gti there are 2 vac take-offs on the plastic pipe in front of the inlet manifold - one in use, one blanked off with a green cap. I removed the green cap and used that vac take off point instead of the one that was on the old throttle body.
