1.8 conversations

my engine has had it so going down the 1.8t convention route '225 bam engine' what would be the best gear box to go with this! As told I would need a 5 speed plus what engine mounts…. car is a 87 cab gti

This is no place for a conversation or a convention but its ok for a conversion.  You need an 02j box, 5 speed to make it simple. Then you need the conversion mounts, readily available from more than 1 place. Some like to replace the heavy dual mass flywheel/clutch with an abf flywheel and vr6 clutch. Some gearbox,s come with 108mm cups (for d/shafts) these will need replacing with 100mm ones. Also some like to use diesel gearbox for the higher ratios.

The BAM 6 speed will fit with the correct conversion mounts that's an 02M. (If not 4x4) your current box will be an 02A I would think and anything is possible but would recommend the O2J. Lots of guides on it, make sure you keep all gear cable change bits, and pedal etc, also need to convert to hydro clutch for the O2J
