1.6 cabriolet fuel pump problem (carb)

Post

Hello,

I had a problem with fuel starvation (cutting out under load). Took car into garage. Mechanic says it's definitely  fuel starvation caused by the fuel pump.

The garage orderd a new pump which looks exactly the same as the old one but  both seem to have a lever on the back that when it goes into position it has to be fully elevated to fit on the cam lobe so isn't getting enough up and down movement.

Does this make sense to anyone? Could the engine have been changed at some point?

Many thanks for any advice.

Rachel

Its a cam so is the cam lobe 'up' when you are fitting it?

In operation there is enough movement as the cam rotates?

Any starvation problem with a MK1, look in the tank via the access under the rear seat/fuel sender, is it 100% clean and not full of rust and road debris?

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

What carb do you have as sometimes a Webber carb can suffer from fuel starvation as it sends to much fuel back to the fuel tank, try restricting the fuel return pipe to see if that helps?
Lots of info on the web and on this site about restricting fuel return pipe for a Webber carb.
