Worth 10 mins on the phone....

My breakdown cover was up for renewal. THe AA wanted ?149.50 off me! So I looked around. The best online was GEM Motoring Assist for ?62.55 but they won't cover large trailers; the RAC want ?105.75. So I phoned the AA up and moaned a little bit (politely) and they got their price down to ?104.65 - by sheer chance, a tiny bit lower than RAC. So…a few more minutes dithering and a request for the girl to talk to her manager and pull some strings…..?94.18!

So the moral of the tale is - its still worth a little bit of banter and bartering, on anything, these days.

THis is well documented. I sign up new every year!

I don't know why the AA are so rubbish with this but of all the faults they could have this is minor.

Yeah BUT they never lined up with my AA expiry, and what with having 3 cars, it kinda makes things complicated to have one breakdown tied to the main car, then another breakdown cover tied to the multi-car policy. So it was cheaper and easier to keep breakdown separate. Sure if I had one car, it would have worked out cheaper.

Hey thats a point, think I get breakdown with HSBC Plus - that said I don't know if they put limit on age of car?

MOST breakdown provided with insurance is recovery only to the nearest garage!

something to bear in mind! i pay about ?9 a month for RAC solution 3 (everything but a courtesy car!)
