Winter's nearly here...

its getting cold and the nights are drawing in! So what are your plans for your Mk1s over the winter? A small service or a complete rebuild - post 'em up!

I am back on the LS resto over the winter. Need to make up mind how I want her to look ready for next year. I see some cold nights in the garage ahead!

Cheers

Just dropped my silver mk1 campaign back onto the fully rebuilt/powder coated axle after extensive repairs to the rear end.  New axle mounting points, chassis outriggers, spare wheel well, inner arches.  Car can now be pushed onto trailer as its going to my uncles garage so we can get it up on the ramp and finish it off underneath.  Still a long way to go so i see myself being very busy over the winter with it.

Jobs still to do include new sills, repairs to floor pan, fabricate/obtain new fuel pump bracket, make up new fuel lines (can i splice in a new section at the rear?) new brake lines, new rear panel, new wings, possibly new bonnet, get new headlining fitted, prep for paint and get it resprayed.  That is scary now i look at it.  Certainly didnt plan on all this work/expense before i started stripping it.  It only failed its mot on a small hole near the axle mounting point!.

I have heard that replacing the whole lines is a complete pain so was hopeing to get away with making another connection towards the rear of the car.  If not then i guess ill have to replace the lot.  Cheers for the offer, ill probably get back to you.

Actually getting chance to drive my car would be nice. After I've moved the boxes of poly bushes and carbon bumpers and end caps ou of the bloody way  :banghead:  :banghead:

In all honesty, might see if i can psare tim to fit the v-sam pro I've had for 3 years on the garage wall - that would be agood start, so at least i can start to plug the laptop in

Daniboy, if you want a headlining drop me a pm

Ideally I'd like to completely overhaul the cylinder head on mine, as it's very rattly, and renew the complete fuel system including fuel lines, injectors and all associated bits. Give the engine bay and whole car a really really good clean, take out the interior and clean it, and put a new dash in to replace the rather warped one in the car, do a spot of rewiring on the tempermental indicator circuit, lots of other little bits.

But seeing as it's my daily driver at the moment, i don't think it's going to happen unless i can find myself a reliable useable small car for the winter for ?300??

Well given my Campaign is still SORN and the evenings are closing in I guess it will be complete brake system and rear axle overhaul, plus new fuel pipe fitting.

Also noticed one of the bottom of the rear wheels arches is looking a bit flakey - not sure I am feeling brave enough to start poking in there with a screwdriver yet though 8O

Have you got any pics of this - if so could you post them up in the restoration section? I've got to do the same to mine over the winter, and I'd really appreciate seeing how it's done 8)

I'm gonna be on my own on the open road then by the looks of it!!!

All weather cabby driving is THE way forward (Walt!)…rain, shine, hail, snow what ever Lancashire can throw at it!!!

and probably a new set of tyres (still on The Champs) so I can actually stay on the open road!!

Well i have spent the last month or so giving the garage a bit of a revamp ready for winter, ply lined walls and ceiling, wooden floor, lots of lighting, a coat of paint, draft proofing the door, a heater and lots of extra storage, will have plenty to keep me busy with in there over the winter months and should be pretty snug  :D
