Why is nobody interested??

Although not directly related to a MK1, I am still a MK1 owner and it still impacts on whether my beloved Rivage is on the road or not, so do help if you have an idea.

I got rid of my VR6 6 months ago (great decision) and bought a 54 plate passat TDi 130 SE (bad decision) because i thought i would be doing loads of miles as my bird lived in Durham.

Unfortunately / fortunately (whichever way you wanna take this) the Mrs got a job near me and we are now living together. So I dont travel very far, in fact i travel 8 miles to work and back each day. So the need for the passat is no longer there.

I have had it up for sale for about a month on pistonheads and I have had it in the autotrader for 3 weeks and on most online free ads, but not a single bloody call. I think i have it on at the right money and its a quality car, but no idea why i haven't had a little interest apart from some prat offering me 4k for it!!!

I know we are in a recession, but surely it should go.

Anyone else having trouble shifting their motor recently? How far should you go before you are giving it away?

Any tips…

If no one has come to view then its priced too high, sorry  :( . But that could be because its in exceptional condition! :)

I think quite a few people will stay with the car they have at the moment, cause of the concerns. I mean running a car for an extra year is no great hardship as long as its reliable, and could save a thousands in depreciation. Which is going to drive prices down espcially as more dealers reduce stock. Basic supply and demand.

Get rid of the couple of scrapes text, may get you some interest, people will be coming to at anyway and make their mind up. But dont do that on summut like Ebay or sale will drop through.

Nate - I too have the same dilema. I have a 53 Patty - 130 too. Bought it to do the mega miles to work (200 each day) and then got a closer job. I now travel just 20 miles a day. I paid 5800 for Patty 12 months ago but it's a little higher spec than yours. Not as tidy as yours now though.

I'm hankering for something a bit different now and regret selling my 2001 Golf GTi really - that'd be perfect!

I would hope to get about 4.5k for mine but my miles are much higher than yours now - 112k. I'd probably be open to offers.

I think you're asking about the right price though - Yours is newer, lower miles and in better condition than mine. 3 months ago I think you'd have got it sold - now fuel is cheaper than it was I don't think our sort of cars are as wanted!

All the best in your sale - I'd hold on for the money but if you're desperate for the sale and money then drop the price to below 5k?

Worth trying on EGay with a reserve?

if you have the room i'd park up the rivage for winter and use the passat through christmas and wait until spring try selling it again then.  think everybody is feeling the pinch at moment and with christmas, winter fuel bills looming people aren't as keen to spend on cars ect.

Mk1 2l TSR G60.  .getting. There twice as fast

Mk1 lhd diesel…….getting. There for half the cost

You haven't said how much you are looking for but if nobody has come to see it you're simply asking too much.

People have no money right now and second-hand cars are going for peanuts. I just sold a fully loaded S60 for ?3,000 on a 51 plate with 80,000 miles! and it had everything including Dolby Surround Sound, loads of car for no money!

Lower your sights mate, simple.

i have to disagree with a couple of comments its not that some people have no money its just that the money they have they are spending more wisely at the moment, something they might have pushed the boat out for 6months ago they are not at the moment and waiting to see if they can get a bargain if they do decide to take the plunge, if you can afford to clear your feet and drop the price a little and would rather do that than hang on to it then just sell at current market value its crap i know but unfortunately the truth,   Try selling a bmw mini that you paid 18k for less than 8months ago an getting told it's only worth 11k now thats a killer :banghead:  :banghead:

the whole car trade is feeling the pinch everybody is offloading stock as fast as poss at moment as they dont want to get stuck. for example toyata celica newish models in glasses guide was dropping around ?400-?500 a month!!!. you dont want that stuck on your forecourt. its a buyers market at moment if you have something run of the mill then as there are literally thousands out there the price drops, something a little bit special mk1s for example will always find a buyer although not as quick as some would like,it is supply and demand and as less people are spending then you need to lower you price to get rid. personally i would use passat over winter meanwhile advertise it in as many free places as you can. it will go byt you might have to wait and look at what everybody else has theirs up for.

there are still people buying cars as i just sold my scooby to buy an audi, had to drop price down to ?2.5k just to sell group 20 car that on a good day does 20mpg! was panicking a bit this time last year would have got ?3.5-?4k

Thats an awful drop. I think you are right though. I am gonna have to just grin and bare the cash falling through my fingers.

I am scared of storing the golf over the winter. Although its in a garge, is it really safe to do so???

I dont want to ruin her.

If you think you can walk onto a vw dealers forecourt at the moment and buy an immaculate passat 1.9tdi 130 on a 2005 plate with every optinal extra for under ?8k its no wonder buyers aren't interested in buying privately. For the sort of money cars are going for, most people can afford the reassurance that you get when buying from a main dealer. and those that cant afford it will be looking for finance and a part ex.

Suppose so.

I have lowered my price. So its less than 5k now, which is a bloody give a way now!!! I have seen some so much dearer than mine than are not as nice and higher on the miles. So thats it, i will just have to wait.

Annoying as hell. I want it gone so i can drive my Rivage :banghead:
