why have mk1's devalued so much?

After recently putting my mk1 cabby on the market I have found it extremely hard to get any interest from anyone :/ I remember when I first got my car that I had people biting my arm off for it however after calling around iv talked to about 25 classic car dealers and every single one has told me that the demand for them is still there however the price has dropped to Such a extent I won't be able.to make any money back on my.project the best offer I got was 600!! I know money is money at the end.of the day but after sinking thousands into.a car surely a better return is expected? I'm not meaning to moan or push the sale.of me car I was jist wondering why this price of mk1's have dropped so much? Or if anyone has advice on where to look for potential buyers? I refuse to put.it.on eBay as I can't have my pride and joy been driven into a wall aha cheers all

You would only get a £ return restoring cars like Astons and E-Types. Even doing a lot of the work yourself you will never make a profit on mainstream vehicles.

You need to view it as a pass time/hobby.

Dealers will only offer a noddy amount as they will aim to double/triple/quadruple their money.

Don't think MK1 prices have dipped but held steady and in the case of the very best examples increased.

1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

cabriolets are pritty worthless unless its a limited edition

sportline or rivage

the reason being that there are simple so many of them

tintops fetch a premium as they were only produced till 1983 where as cabby were up untill 1993

Yeah i guessed that, not a debate for this thread i guess. Back to the original point i suppose it is supply versus demand. A lot of tintops have long since met thier demise thus forcing the prices up on those that are left (though some prices that are asked are truly ridiculous) and cabbys were produced for longer and are plentiful.  :) case in point - i have not long bought a solid low mileage 1986 gti cabby with fsh and t and t for £400 but if i wanted a equivalent tintop gti without being a bag of rust i would have to pay a damn site more :(

Wow that helped loads

I think cabbys are fetching more than they did a few years ago yes there value is lower than tin tops but i dont see as many cheap ones these days as there's quite a few dear ones advertised.

Plus you can advertise your car for what ever you want but you will only get what someone is willing to pay if yours is really nice it will go, selling is like fishing

It dunt fit

Yeah that's the problem Iv been so in decided on whether to sell it or not but I honestly can't afford to keep it going my insurance is stuuuppiidddlllyyy expensive and I thought If I sold it I wld get a reasonable about for it and in my head 2k was not a lot to ask for a car that's been so well cared for and restored yes I haven't done everything but when I company says in there headline *we love to buy old classics restore them and sell them back on to enthusiastes* would appriciate the work iv done but apparently not aha I guess itl sit away until I get that call may even try do some more unexpensive work just to save the new owner some time

I don't know what everyones on about? Both cabby and tintop values have rocketed over the past few years :dontknow: Along with the spare parts!

If you're having no interest it may just be because people can't afford to spend anything at the mo, or you're simply asking too much!

Look at it this way if we had had a hot sunny summer then cabby prices would be up, as it is its done nowt but rain and I have only had my roof down about 4 times this year, I feel this is a factor to think about.

Dont ask what your club can do for you, but what can you do for your club?
