Why do you come onto this site?

I'm trying to start a bit of a debate; I think forums and sites aren't just about the big posters and the keyboard warriors etc. I think they're more of a comfort blanket, it lets you know that you're not the only idiot who spends far too much time thinking about cars. And on those late nights in the garage when you skin your knuckles (and jump around splitting up some good curse words just so you can fit it extra curses  ) and you realise you're beginning to enjoy the pain and its time you sought some help, you can log on to your favourite sites and see that there are other mad men out there too, grinding and spitting out mouthfuls of rust, cursing and getting earache from their other half about the fact that you spend more time with that damned car than you do with me  .

Go on do you agree or disagree?

My New Year's resolutions are: 1. Stop making lists. B. Be more consistent. 7. Learn to count.

got to said, i agree, if it wasnt for this site, i wouldnt have been able to do some of the jobs on my cabby, like you say, it makes you feel glad your not the only one chewing rust during the restoration.  I love the stories on here, peoples searches and just the great characters on here, I know ive not met many of you guys but the ones i have met have all been complete nutters and are great.

regards to all

Good thread!!  If you mean why do I come on here…. basically it's for like minded people and the mk1… what I mean is I have made friends at meets who I can just txt and have a laugh with in real life or help each other… then I have people on here like blans, jay10, kavlfc, richyhill etc that I can have banter with about football…. then there are others who just jump into threads and have a laugh…. I come here to escape… and as there's mk1 topics and real life stuff…. why go anywhere else?….. The people on this site should be proud of what they have created too…. this isn't like your other sites of abuse, sarcastic comments etc…. it's a cracking little community and we all contribute to how good it is to visit here.

The other forums think they know everything….with their new fangled cool stuff!!

On here we actually do know everything!!

The people on here are much cooler and more relaxed. The general atmosphere on here of 'it's your car mod it how you like  (if you like) and if you don't like that's cool too!!' approach is much better.

It's a bit of a mixed bag on here, but, it's a quality and generally very pleasent mix at that! Apart from that dirty beggar with the pickled eggs and the nutter who dresses up as Freddy Mercury the AGMs are top drawer. Or should that be top barby nowadays!!

This is where the real people come!! 8)

Why do I come on this site :?  that's a good question well its true to say its changed my life as i spend more time on here than almost anything else as the Mrs will tell you.

I just like the feel of the place and its good to be part of what makes it tick, you do get a different angle being on the committee and being Chairman isn't what most folks think it is.

I will be the first to admit that my Mk1 knowledge isn't the best and to be fair this job doesn't require it.
most of my time is spent sorting people problems out not car problems but i enjoy it and its a good feeling when you work hard to sort stuff out Like the AGM, which was a great success.

I'm very lucky to have a fantastic team of committee members who work behind the scenes much harder than the average member would ever know, which is the way its supposed to be, the average members wants to come here for the same things I did before I became a committee member and to be fair I still come on the site for the same 2 reasons now

1 Fun
2 knowledge

and strictly in that order.

Dont ask what your club can do for you, but what can you do for your club?

I have no real friends……

Ive never done the whole 'forum' thing before but when I stumbled across this site while searching to buy a mk1 I just loved it and became a member straight away. Everyone has been nice and its very laid back. The mk1 I eventually bought was from these classifieds as well.
Its very addictive and Im now on here alllll the time, much to the annoyance of my girlfriend.

Thanks people

…because I love it. basically!

From the second i joined i had welcome messages which made me feel very welcome and when i become a member me feel more part of the banter than when i was a guest, i don't know why. Since I started going to the MK meets over 2 years ago my enthusiasm and passion for the mach has grown and grown and its so nice to share that with perfect strangers and those strangers becoming good friends, people that without the golf I would have never have met so I have my car to thank for that! The AGM was a real big milestone for me in my opinion, I was looking forward to it anyway but it far exceeded any expectation i had, the laughs! the quotes! the banter! the food! the drink! the people/mates! the atmosphere! the everyone was there to celebrate being part of this brilliant club was just ore inspiring! any one who is debating whether to go or not, you have to come this year! no question!

Now I have this love and this car in my life I never want to lose it. I always want a golf and the reasons for this are endless!! I have to thank guys like Funk-Star and dubboy for their work and the effort they have put in to my car in terms of servicing and knowledge, parts and labour! its saved me a fortune and thats what this site is great for, its realistic and the site and the people understand that not everyone can afford the expense of most cars and their up keep, we seem to be growing and growing, from people from all over the work joining us and keeping the site alive!

As you can probably tell I love this site, much to my missus's gratitude! she doesn't understand my obsession but im glad im not the only mk1 fan that has a moral dilemma when it comes to spending money and spending time with my car! makes me feel alot better.

heres to the club!  :notworthy:  :punk:

I stumbled accross this site when I was researching my 20v conversion, I never used to take part in any of the threads until I started my new job which has internet access and is incredibly boring!

So now I try and answer peoples questions in the technical area, I feel better that I can and give something back to the site and its members!

Great site, thanks everyone for all that you do!

For all the reasons that has been said already!
The people on here are so helpful and genuine, Never met face to face but hopefully will change when i get to meets this year.
Certain members have there own attritbutes which is fantastic as so many people benefit.
Funk star, seems to always have spares for sale! chortle kindly helped a young woman with her cab roof which is a great example of what people on this site are here for, Rubjonny is full of info and has helped me alot with bits on my car.
I dont have time to go round everyone! but there is alot more.
Build threads are also great.
Although im into the modified side i cant resist a standard gti..any genuine standard golf for that matter

Definately the obsession thing.. "My name is Blans and I have an addiction" Makes you realise not that you are not mad but there are others as mad and addicted as you! That and there seems to be a whole lot of nice people in one place which is very rare on car forums as a rule.

Ive gained alot of knowledge through this site about the mk1's from lots of familar names who are very helpful. I come on to watch the projects for ideas and look out for another project. I dont really know anyone in person but will be going to the annual gathering and hopefully put some faces to the names.

If it isnt broke fix it until it is.
