150 bhp is 150 bhp regardless of engine.

The mk1 will be quicker as the power to weight is better

Mk4 is prob around 1ton so would be 150bhp per ton vs the mk1 that's around 880kg so 170bhp per ton

But take in to account your engine is older so might be putting out less bhp and also take into account gearing and wind resistance

Only way to find out would be race!!

Yeah expect the mk1 to be quicker initially, then the better aerodynamics/torque of the mk4 to move it ahead.

Even a 1.8 gti will give a mk4 20v a run for its money.

The lightest mk4's weigh in around 1200kg, comes in around 120bhp/ton -  they are quite lardy and a 150bhp 20vt would struggle even against a standard GTi upto maybe 100 where the aero of the newer car would take over.

150bhp odd mk1 would pee all over it ;)

 :P

By the time his turbo has decided to come out to play you will be long gone!

Tell him to get a Custom Code re-map then come back & try again!!!

This comes from a mk4 1.8t owner…..with a Custom Code remap, K03s turbo, child seat and a dog guard!!! (yep, the child seat and dog guard made the biggest improvement!!).
