Tinworm = Rust
Visible signs of rust are the easiest way to find it, bubbling etc. Poke around under the car with a big stick.

Be brutal with a sharp tool! That will find rust. Also, a magnet is handy (especially if you're looking and its not your car).

Tape worm is a worm ( of sorts…. ) if you have that then your VW worries are of little significance…

There are all kinds of worms:

Oil leak worm
Coolant leak worm
Dry rubber worm
Wet slimy fusebox worm

How do you know, unless you check? Remember that time when we had a NWM and you had to drive home in the rain, on the motorway, and the car got soaked?

Don't panic Walt. I have just taken the back axle off a 28 year old Scirocco that has been stood outside for many years. Not a speck of rust, and that is built by Karmann during the years they did not know what anti-corrosion treatment was. People assume too much these days  :roll:
