Whats the plastic plug for on top of gearbox

Anyone know what this plastic plug is for. Sort of sits on top of clutch housing. I need to know as ive put the gearbox oil in there.

Anyone know the outcome of this.

Thanks

Dave :(

Bad news you have just poured oil onto your clutch. The plug is to check the timing marks on the flywheel.

Not good, will make clutch slip and then judder as it burns off the oil.

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Does this mean i will have to strip it, or will it burn off.

Is your clutch slipping now? You may get away with it if you burn it off asap.

Oh no! Thats not good mate...... hot much went in??? It really needs stripping down and cleaning. You might need a new friction plate too... the rest off it should wipe down ok. Oh well we all live and learn from our cock ups. Good luck mate.

I used to own a mk1 - well I've had 2 actually - YDU 720X & SMU 420Y. Currently I drive an 98 Scotia White Mitsubishi Evolution V RS…. fancy getting another mk1 someday :D

The car survived, been running for a few days and i think its all drained out now. No difference to before. Did slip to start with. O well thats one thing i wont be doing again, and will deff get a haynes manual.
