Whats the betting that...
Hi Folks,
Well I'm afraid I won't be at the AGM as I have to change my gearbox this weekend. I've checked the weather forcast for my area and it shows bright sunshine - would anybody like to guess if that is going to be anywhere near the truth!
Gotta get my 'box changed this weekend as my Lancia runs out of tax at the end of the month and I wanna bring my Golf out for the summer
Kind Regards,
Steve Matthews
PS. I'll be there next year - promise! Take lots of photos so those who can't make it see what they missed.

Don't think I;ll be able to make it either . GTI's just had another breakdown  . Parked in B&Q car park, came out and went to start and just span on starter. Good spark, but no fuel to injectors, then realised fuel pump wasn't priming. Cleaned contacts still no joy so called the AA.
Have to say was the best call-out service so far. Bloke spent an hour tracing the fault very methodically. In the end worked out no live feed to fuel pumep which was down to the cable from the fusebox to the fuel pump failing. Rigged up a nice get-me home, but now got to trace wire round loom & into fusebox. Just had a look at it and theres a lot of wires there 8O . Also loom appears trapped by fuel tank at pump end, so thats my weekend taken care of… also got to change C's front struts

Blimey, sounds like I'll be about the only one turning up with a Mk1 at this rate
John (lakesk8) - are you close to the A12 / M25 junction? I've already agreed to give TC a lift (he's near Barnet), but probably got room for one more. Only thing I need to check is how big the parts are he is picking up off adolf when we get there. If they require the back seat down we might have an issue there.
PM me if you can get close to the M25 / A12 junction and I'll see if its a goer.
Cheers,
Chris

Aw Drew….. I was at least counting on you bringing your Mk1  …..
If you are planning on going around the M25 over the Dartford Crossing and then up the M40 keep an eye out for myself and TC in my Lhasa Green Campaign (plate ends HCW)! I'm hoping the ole girl will get up there and back without any trauma's but have the full recovery cover just in case and a toolkit in the boot.
Anyone else coming up from the SE and going M25 / M40? I'll be going early to give plenty of time to get there, probably hitting New Barnet to collect TC at just after 7am.
Cheers,
Chris

Drew's Mk1
I've got to be a bit careful with the limited mileage policy unfortunately, as I've got to go to the filming of JC's video the following weekend. It's nearly a 350 mile round trip each time, and my mileage policy is only 3000 miles a year!
And the Audi is actually quicker, quieter, more economical, has aircon and a decent stereo too! Obviously not so much fun to drive around country lanes, but motorways are not the mk1s forte!
Cheers,
Drew.

Only pulling your leg Drew
Those limited mileage policies are a bit of downer - luckily my year is up in August and I have only done about 2000 of my 4500 so I have a bit of leeway.
Weather doesn't look too great, so I can't say I blame you. Driving the Mk1 on the motorway in the sheeting rain with those ultra slow wipers is no picnic
Still, as long as I don't break down I'll be a happy bunny!

Walt and I are cruising down now! Road trip! Not in our golfs as walts has vw museum mileage and mine has a habbit of jumping out of 5th on the motorway ops: so walts 3 series touring is our choice of stead. 8)
I'm getting up real early for this so it better be good!
See you guys and gals tomoz

Well I donno how your Sunday was - can't wait to find out (and see some pictures) but I managed to change my hub and stick a boot on the CV joint too.
I was right too - Got back from the supermarket, jumped into my overalls, got the car in the air. Disconnected the bottom ball joint, driveshaft from hob, track rod end, brake caliper and bottom of the strut then the heavens opened!
I chucked all my tools under the car and went in the house - the rain only lasted about 40mins though but it was REALLY coming down hard.
Anyway, once it finished I got the job done - did end up with a wet back though. Leaves me the bank holiday to get the gearbox swapped over - carbs setup and everything checked for MOT. Looks like I need two tyres on the front - hopefulyl Mr. MOT man won't find too much else!
