I'm assuming the welds can be ground flat, that the panels aren't rippled and it will be smoothed and painted upon completion. It looks like a 'lookalike' Rallye conversion, of course they never did a Mk1 Rallye, it was a special edition Mk2 only. I'd have to see the completed job, it could work out really good (and unique), or it might 'miss' in a big way!

I'm sure I have seen pics of a VW motorsport Mk1 with Rallye style arches on it.

This is certainly not the first Mk1 that has been done like this though. I have seen pics of at least one other and it didn't look too hot…

Good grief 8O I thought this sort of thing was done with bodykits/grp - thats a load of extra weight going on there. The contour of the metal doesn't look that straight and the metals rippled towards the top/front, going to need a lot of plod to smooth that out and got to make the other side identically :? .
