What original colours was an X reg Mk1 GTI available in?

A friend has won this on Ebay:

I've only seen this colour on a non-GTI before, so I was wondering if it really is an original colour or not?  I know some colours can be special order.  My mate's not bothered either way, but I was just curious.

Also, does anyone have any prior knowledge of this particular car?

One this colour crashed into me a few years back.  Tore the wheel off my beloved (at the time) MK1 Astra :evil:  That was the same year but a left hooker. It was a GTI too.

it looks like a really light jade green from the mk2 gti???? It may well be a factory colour but only the paint code on the car will confirm that. Could be worth asking the seller for the paint code?

I was going to say "black, red and silver" but then seeing the car, rings some bells from the distant past (ie when I was a teenager and the roads were plentiful with Mk1 Golf GTIs).

Whatever, I think its a general rule that metallics of the 80s are less good at surviving, therefore the bodywork would have been more prone to (terminal) corrosion. You tend to see way more black and red ones, than silver ones.

Later cars were available in white, Lhasa green and (rare) Helios Blue.

No doubt, others will be able to add to this thread…..

If it is the original paint then it is Inari Silver (L94A).

In the UK, the GTi was available in Alpine White, Diamond Silver, Black, Mars Red ("No.1" & "No.2"), Lhasa Green and Helios Blue depending on the year.

On the continent, additional colours were Atlas Grey, Inari Silver and Sand.

As RHD cars could be ordered outside of the UK, it is possible to see these colours over here as personal imports.

There's a series 2 Gti I see around near me (Lincolnshire) in this colour too!

It is Inari Silver.  Another mate had a non-GTI this colour (which is for sale on DemonVW at the mo, I think).  Now he's collected the GTI, I can confirm that it was a RHD import, personally collected from the factory and does still have the original paint code sticker.  It needs doors, etc but is structurally sound.
