What do you think???
I was just walking back to my car earlier today and saw a 1979 1.0 base model golf in a pastely banana colour, totaly original, immac int, very small rust patches, one owner from new and only 65k on the clock……….
I have just bought it for ?400.
Was that a bargin or waste of money???
Not sure which way to go with it….restoration or project car???
What are peoples views.
Thanks
Joe

Get rid of the rust and have a re-spray in the original colour.
Chromed Ronal turbos
White wall tyres
either a 2.0 16v with 40/45s or something else
5 speed gearbox.
Coilovers.
Not sure what to do with the inside though……..keep the original tweed seats, strip it out with a full cage or tan leather seats (prob Recaros) and matching rear seat and door cards.

All the panels are original and straight.
There is slight rust on the bottom of the doors, so i have got my power sander out and has now all gone.
Other than that its just a bit of surface rust which will sand out.
Whats the best way to treat metal before priming it to prevent rust coming back?
Im going to leave the 1.1 engine in for now till i have sourced a decent replacement.
I have got some all red rear lights, crystal front lights and indicators.
Also i have got all the wheels off at the mo so doing some work on the arches, scraping all the dried mud and cack off, going to spray loads of 'muck off' cleaner to penitrate all the other bit then give it a good blast with the presure washer, rust treat them all, prime them ready for the re-spray.
Thats it for this weekend, really struggling to get any pics hosted due to my computer dating back to the 1950's its about the size of my bedroom. getting a new one next week though so ill have some pics up then.
Any advice, parts to be sold or anything i should know is greatly appriciated.
Cheers Joe
