What do i need to look out for when buying a mk1 sportline??
what makes a sportline a sportline,
the only things i can think of is
they were only made as j and k plate,
has that red/black interior,
and the bbs alloys with the black centres,
ive seen a mk1 golf convertible that mite be a sportline,
what do i need to make sure it is?
and is there any things to look out for when buying a cabriolet in general?
thanks peeps

Hood condition , interior condition , accident repairs , genuine parts in good condition , service history and general rust / repairs .
You can spend a lot on a Cabriolet especially at this time of year but do not get carried away, its easy to buy what looks like a good one only to find it's a Dog …
Cab's always fetch a higher price in spring ……

I'm sure there are more differences.
For cabs in general…
Look at the handles that secure the roof in the closed condition to make sure they aren't snapping.
Check power hood works properly
Check side and rear tensioning cables are present and taught.
Check frame for wear
Check for rust on rear window frame
Check condition of hood itself for rips, cracks, and shrinkage at the sides.
All rubber seals should be in good condition
Does it have a hood bag? It should.
Check rear seats can be collapsed easily making surethe release mechanism works under the left side of the boot/flap.
Any more anyone?

Sportline!
Sportline's came in Flash red or black with the (6J x 15) bbs cross spokes, uniquely finished with black centres, (185/55 R15 tyres recaro interior with unique red and black jaquard sport upholstery. Leather bound steering wheel and multi functional computer! 112 bhp 1.8 gti engine, 5 speed manual. Power hood, green tinted heat insulating glass and stereo radio cassette as standard! The tonneau cover was black leather look pvc on the sportline. The brochure shows the VW badge in silver chrome, I think someone suggested a black vw badge, maybe this was added afterwards?
Things to look for! check the fuel filler neck!!! (obvious to those who know!) Check for originality of the paint and panels! VIN numbers, on the bonnet slam panel also stamped in the metal at top of the metal which forms the front of the heater intake! Brakes were always feeble on the mk1 cab but a little better on later cars! Worth giving it a full service if it has been standing for a long time! Power hood pump's have been mentioned!
When checking any car for damage repaired, check the gaps down all the doors are the same! As with the bonnet etc. Another good check is the gap between the tyre and the arch is the same on both sides of the car! Ie the chssis isn't twisted! Bla bla bla sorry to go on! If I can help with anything, feel free to get in touch! Cheers….Walt!
