Think they are just to warn that power lines are overhead.. I notice there was a lake on your campsite? fishing poles and high voltage not a great mix

Why don't you accept what I tell you, camping flag poles, tent poles, fishing poles. It's a warning for overhead power lines.

placed on power lines that have a history of bird strikes, so the birds can see them, having seen a few swans hit power lines without them, its not a pretty sight.

I agree with Jon and Ant - it's for visibility. There are big plastic balls on the lines here in the mountains to ensure paragliders and helicopters can see where there's danger.

What he said! /\ got them around here near a few lakes for incoming birds ie swans and geese that are large enough to bridge across 2 lines when flying down on to the lake.

The ones here are like the plastic balls LeFrancoPhoney mentions.

I think all the answers are correct.

It's a warning to Man and Birds that the power lines are there.
More often seen around water for the feather brain birds and the now more common 'feather brained' people who stand there waving around a 15m carbon fiber fishing pole.

Both can be extremely entertaining to watch when they strike the power lines!
