What a god awful day!
Well I spent most of it in Hull Royal Infirmary in the A&E department and then on the 13th floor childrens ward (where my wife still is).
The reason why?
We went to visit the dinosaur exhibition and 'The Deep' in Hull, we parked at the deep and started to walk towards the dinosaurs with my Sis-in-law to be Wendy carrying my youngest daughter, Amelia (who is 2).
Wendy tripped off the kerb face first and as she fell Amelia landed on the back of her head and neck, Wendy landed on top of her.
Although shocked Amelia seemed okay but 5 minutes later after constant crying she was violently sick twice.
We headed straight back towards the car and called an ambulance
They took her with blues and twos to the hospital with a neck collar on where they did a CT scan of her neck and brain.
They came back and first told us that her brain was fine with no bleeding, second that her neck was also fine although maybe a bit of whiplash. Then they dropped the bomb shell that they wanted to keep her in for observation as she has a fractured skull.
So that's our holiday just about ruined, but at least she should be okay with the fractured skull (which should heal on it's own) and a concussion.

what was your honeymoon like?
I know your witty sarcasm by now foxy but just so you know we have never had a honeymoon.
At the time we were skint and planned to try and get away for a week but didn't and that was probably a good thing as Joanna was pregnant at the time and went into early labour (at 22 weeks and 5 days) exactly one week after we got married. Callam was born a week later (23 wks 5d) weighing 500 grams and he lived for 13 days.
So as you can see our honeymoon was spent in a hospital, Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham to be exact. A place of faultless, tireless, doting, wonderful Special Care Baby Unit staff who gave everything they could for him.

after another day at the hospital I am glad to say they have discharged Amelia with just a few cautionary bits of advice about making sure there is no rough and tumble play etc and to arrange a follow up appointment through our GP for in a couple of weeks. Wendy is fine Paul thanks for asking just a graze on her knee and hand and slightly twisted ankle. Her main injury has been to her pride I think as despite us all saying it was an accident she blames herself.
Amelia's fracture is quite amazing in that it runs from about 2/3 of the way up the back of her head just right of centre all the way down and underneath where the skull curves underat the top of the neck.
They also told us today that at one point yesterday they thought that she may have dislocated her neck(!) but after a few more tests they are positve she hasn't.
Anyway Mrs Cabby and Amelia are both back with me now and, touch wooders, they are both going to be okay.

With three grown up sons I've spent many an hour in A&Es and children's wards and can completely understand how worrying and exhausting it can be, but as Paul says, they have an uncanny knack of shrugging off even seemingly major traumas while you are still reeling from it!
They still give me similar grief (specially the skateboarding eldest and, strangely, my husband is no stranger to accidents) and with a grandchild due to arrive any day (hubby's son's) we've kind of come full circle!!!

Take care
