Wave!
Ok this has happened to me twice now, whilst driving home from Leeds to Ingleton (around Ilkley) I have passed a lady driving a silver campiagn (well a twin grille golf obviously cant varify its campaigness! )…. well anyway I flashed my lights and waved…..no respnse both times!
I mean how rude! I'm not impressed.
If I see her again shes getting the Bird :x
I've had campers, beetles, corrado's MK1's 2's 3's and even a 4 8O wave at me or give Ratty the thumbs up (no 5's yet they are evil too! )
So people do the done thing WAVE!

Know just how you feel…….
Some people just don't appreciate what they've got. To some people the car is just a metal box on wheels that gets them from A to B……!!!!
I regularly see one person, who never waves, never cleans or repairs the car….used to be a gorgeous Cab, now it's a wreck !! (not even worth being future mobile spares). CRIMINAL

I normally give a nod, unless the other driver is very enthusiastically trying to acknowledge me where I'll give the thumbs up or maybe even a flash of the lights/toot of the horn!
Most other Mk1 drivers round here are OK and acknowledge regularly. Friendly lot the Welsh are!

Kins - she probably isn't an enthusiast and less likely to realise what she's driving is special. All the more reason to put a note under the wiper offering to buy the car off her for a few hundred quid (!)

I almost always get at least a wave - you always get one driving the camper or the Mini but usually do in the Golf too.
It someone sees me first they get, headlights (inc spots), "toot toot" on horn and arm out the window thumbs up…
Might be worth seeing if you can do a Mission Impossible manouver and get a flyer under her wiper as she drives past.

I got flashed by a brand new white MK5 GTI on the moors between Hudds/Holmfirth and Glossop about 2 weekends ago. I had spotted it and was just telling the intended "thats one of the new GTIs" and he flashed without prompting. I returned the acknowledgment with a wave. At least some the types with ?20+K to spend on a car know their heritage.

About a month ago whilst trying to promote a meet, I saw a gorgeous Karmann Ghia convertible whilst in traffic near Nottingham. I had to do some serious stopping / slowing / speeding up to get near! Eventually I leaned out of the window & passed a flyer to the occupants!! I was well pleased with myself, but THEY DIDNT SHOW!!

I would go along with Al , ive had nods, waves and people turning up on my drive giving me boxes of bits ,some bits were even useful . No decent mk 4 or 5 drivers though all they seem to want to do is race you .

Replace your Raleigh badge with a VW one!
As you remember you flashed me and pulled over for a chat when entering Tescos car park a year or so ago. Had my sister-in-law with me at the time who thought we were about to be subject to a road rage attack - I had to explain the Mk1 fellowship
I usually flash and wave to other mk1s, most do so back. Recently saw a red mk1 (maybe driver?) in Colchester with a female driver who waved enthusiastically, girlfriend also saw her a week later when in our C - anyone on here?

I pass a guy driving a black 'Y' regd 1600 on my way to work in Blackburn, he's going towards Preston and after 5 days running I've given up waving…. I've now armed myself with a few laminated credit card sized flyers to advertise us. All I need to do is find where he lives now!!!

got a few funny looks, think theres only me here in sheffield with mark1's (apart from that bronze/gold shitter, sorry if its yours) , the effort by mk4 and mk5 drivers to get past u is a bit scarey though especially tdi's. have any of u lot tried explaining your passion for mk1 golfs to your friends/work-colleagues and shown them photos? a mixed response (especially by the ladies)
