Wanting rid of my MK1 - Best way to do it?

Hi People,

I bought a couple of dubs back in December on a bit of a whim (mk1 & mk2) now the mk1 I intended to do very little too and use as a daily driver, but fast forward to now and the car is still sitting in my driveway and I have spent several times the cost of the car on the parts I've bought.

I have pretty much no mechanical ability so have been dependant upon the kindness of friends to help and a few garages (total drama as hit'n'run driver reversed into it at last one) I have been getting increasingly frustrated at just how much money has been sunk into it and the time it has taken for it to still be nowhere near completed, I'd like to get rid of it as I seem to have developed a weird compulsion where I keep buying parts for it even though nothing is happening with the project and I just don't have the money to support the car.

I am seeking advice on the best way to minimise my losses, when selling it do I try and sell the car as it is with all the parts I have bought and the ones that have been fitted or do I break it for parts, I originally intended to go for parts option but I really don't want to be left with tons of bits laying around that I can't do anything with (no garage for storage), also where is a good place to advertise (I really hate ebay) a lot of people I have run into are purists and have expressed fairly strong opinions regarding what has been done to it, but I loved it and that was all that counted.

Apologies for the rant, I've just seen my credit card bill and the realisation of just how much I have been spending on this has finally hit me.

Any help, guidance/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Best thing to do would be to put a thread up in the for sale section.  Include a few pictures of the car and all the spares you have.  Note the general condition of the car e.g. bodywork, and what it needs to have it presentable and running again.   You may have a few people interested in it.
Alternatively, sell the car as it is and sell the spare parts on here individually.

Good luck

In my experience, bottom line if you want to get the most money for the parts is stick 'em on ebay. Its hassle to do the listings and deal with the timewasters, but it gets you the largest audience and will most likely net you the most cash for the parts at least.

Just be sure and describe things accurately and use lots of good photos.

Hmmm….. me and eBay haven't had the best of times over the years but I'll see if a mate can give me a hand as I do want to get back as much as possible I accept I'll lose a fair amount but want to do all I can to minimise the hurt.

I swear I never had this much trouble with my mk1's years ago  :(
