URGENT - Need help please

I'm having to drive my 1800 Clipper about 350 miles tomorrow and having just given it a quick once over before hand, I've just noticed that the dip stick is cracked so that it does not create a seal. I'm guessing it's letting a bit of air in/out.

If I drive the car tomorrow with it like this will it be ok, or should I try and manufacture a seal somehow?

Appreciate a quick answer to this if possible….

Thanks

if its the top bit that sits against the tube that dip stick goes in (the plastic bit) then wont gaffa tape do for the time being ?

obviously dont use it if its on the bit that goes into the tube to the engine

The dip stick itself won't clip securely into the "..receiver..". I can fashion something for now with tape, but I just want to know what damage I'm doing to the engine if it is or becomes loose?

Thanks for the quick response!

Gaffa it for now but swing by VAG and pick one up asap.

Will the fact that it's loose mean that air gets in and it damages the engine?

Have Gaffa taped it as best I can but it's not ideal!

Cheers guys, reassuring that it's not something MAJOR to worry about anyway! I've taped it up as best I can and will pick up a new one when I can.

Thanks again…helpful as ever!

you mean that orange bit of plastic is broken, they ALWAYS snap in 2.

if you are that worried about it, you can

1)find a piece of pipe to slide over the 2 broken bits and jubilee clip at the top and bottom.

2)gaffa tape aruond it at least 3 times round. and then jubilee clip the top and bottom of the tape.

should be fine tho tbh.

I wouldn't panic unless you are losing oil through it and i doubt you will.

mines been lose for ages I never lose oil there and as for air getting in not a problem as long as its not water or sand getting in etc you will be OK im sure. :D
