um dillemma!!

im a uni student with lots of interest free money student loan, grant, overdraft.
i have a mk1 at the mo (which is sat on my drive waiting for me to sort it out and sell it) but want a nicer one. should i buy the mintest one i can find and blow the best part of 3 grand or buy a goodun for about 1600ish the car wont be used much, mainly for heading to the supermarket and driving to the woods when i go mtbing. next year it will end up doing a lot more miles because ill be on my placement year so im worried that i wont want to use a stunner everyday.
any thoughts? my insurance is now the cheapest its ever been as im 21 and its only 400 tpf+t.
come on guys help me…..also if anyone knows of a mk1 in plymouth area for sale let me know.
