triumph tr6
just been to a vintage car rally (pre1972) saw some amazing mk1 mg's, and a few nice triumphs, the guy with the mk6 told me about karmann, talk about red rag to a bull, got loads o respec from the old boys for me golf, seems like alot of the old classic car restorers consider mk1s to be a future classic too,
which is nice 8)

I think a good arbitary rule to use, is that if the car's been featured in a well-known classic car magazine, then its a classic. I know it lets in things like Austin Allegro, though.

Maybe when im so old that a cap , pipe and slippers has become the norm ill be critasising a mk3 gti owner for turning up to a classic car meet

i see the car as a classic, so will everyone else on here i suppose, but its not instantly recognisable as a classic to everyone else. this is interesting - some people who see my car will laugh, 'what the hell is that!!??' 'its an old banger!' but if they ask me, what do you drive? and i say a mk1 golf, usually theyre like, woahh, really?? in amazement! so i do think there is a lot of respect out there for them

It was the conservatives idea which they brought in. then labour got in and thought - hang on, thats a load of income lost, so they capped itpaul_c said
Apparently, the plan was to 'roll on' the tax-exempt year, so its always 25 year old cars which are exempt, but the government hasn't done it because they couldn't afford to.

It narks me off because cars like the Golf GTI cost loads to tax, because the engine capacity is above the whatever it is, 1549cc or something. They've tried a number of different ways to tax cars over the years and its quite a muddle now. It will be better when they bring in "road pricing" and we're charged on usage rather than the combination of flat yearly fee and a tax on fuel.

tr6 had a 2 1/2l block with lucas injection , weight about 900 to to 1000kg, later ones came with overdrive in 2nd 3rd and 4th. i think best bhp was 148
eh urh….thats the wrong answer(trust me i know i helped my dad rebuild one of the two he had)
TR6`s from 68-71 came with overdrive in 2nd 3rd and 4th, then in 72 the car was detuned a gay T bar roll bar was added for the american market, and overdrive was removed from 2nd gear and changed to just 3rd and 4th, which was also used in the spitfires and GT6s. they were a 2.5 straight 6(also used in GT6) they put 150 brake out and most of the time now you will find there running of bosch fuel injection because the lucas one was crap. they wieghed a lot more than 1000kg the spitfire wieghs about that, and the spitfire is only 4 cylinder straight engine and tiny compared to the TR6. and yes they were designed by karmann and another intresting fact aswell about the TR6, they are now very few of them on the road because the same amount to restore as an aston martin, there big bucks to do.
superb car, will try find the pics of my dads TR6 that had a no expenses spared 7 year nut and bolt resto, the only thing he didnt do himself was the paint job, and the paint job was superb in a flame red. he drove it regualary and you wouldnt tell you open the bonnet, not a drop of oil anywhere and not a spec of dirt even on the inner arches, was immaculate. and the first day it was back on the road in about 1990 my mum was offered 25k on the spot for it. now 25k was a lot of money back then, ended up getting sold on due to lack of garage space in like 95 for 8k would love to find it now adays

I wouldn't belevie a word of it, I had and MG Midget and the Smiths speedo just waved at me. It really wasn't that accurate.
The top speed of an mgb wasn't that high , the MGC with 3.0l straight 6 could top 120mph
Your golf will out accelarete it! and stay for the corner too!!!
