Trailer Costs

Hey, first post so be nice!

on the lookout for a mk1,

just a quick query really, about the rough costs to get "a bloke with a trailer" to pick up a car for me and transport it. (seen one in cornwall but i live in derby!)

obviously varies on who, what and how far, but if anyone has any rough guestimates or even better a few contacts could you let me know!

Cheers,

Ash

Hi Ash

Welcome to the club and good luck on your search, dont forget to check out the for sale seaction on here

If you go onto the search bar on the forum and type in car trasportation / trailering there is definately some threads on here for website where you put in where you need car collected and then delivered to and trasport companies bid on the work so you can choose a range of pricing for doing the job

Hope that helps

Rich

I had a car transported from Kent to West Yorkshire a few years back - it cost me £300 and I arranged it through Ebay with a fully insured professional company based in Leeds.

These days there is a site called Shiply.com - you enter the details of the object and the distance it needs transporting and then people bid for the business, your don't have to commit to any bids and it should give you a rough idea of costs.

Word of warning - look into the history of the people who pitch - I recently used it and looking at the past history of a bidder revealed a lot of cars had never got to the end point! The bidder had even left a caravan they were transporting, at the roadside in France, because it had got a flat tyre.

When I've done it I found it cheaper to buy a tow bar for my daily car, rent a trailer for a weekend for about £60 and thenif you don't want the tow bar take it off and sell when you're back.

I had a car picked up from scotland and dropped off to me in peterborough for under £200 using shiply.  Chap was helpful, quick, and my car arrived safe and sound.  Like said though if you use shiply check feedback, just like fleabay.

I used Shiply.com to get my cabby delivered back from Norfolk and it costed £150. The company who actually transported the car was CPR vehicle transport, or 'canary' on shiply.com.

They were great, communicated well with both me and the person they collected the car from, and got the car here safely. I was pretty impressed as I didn't think it'd be as simple as it was!

You do have to be careful who you choose however, because apparantly once you've accepted a bid and paid the deposit, Shiply aren't interested in whether the car actually gets delivered, and offer little or no help to resolve the situation…

Make sure you check out the bidders history as said above, and it'll give you a good idea who best to choose. Sometimes its worth paying a bit more for peice of mind.
