Tow Dolly.
Are they good/bad I only want to tow the car a couple of times
and thought this would be a cheap option as it would cost ?40 per day
to hire a tow dolly.

have you not got a tow bar on the front of the appropriate car to attach some beefy rope to?

8O doesn't look safe to me… at all… unless it's like welded to the chassis legs, but it just looks like its pulling on the front of the car so :dontknow:

Not a problem with the tow truck as its a 4x4
the problem is that I want to take the Mk1 for its respray minus lights, body kit, glass, interior etc etc 8O 8O

Max weight you can tow unbraked is 1/2 the tow vehicle's kerb weight, or 750kg, whichever is the lower. You're very near that limit, even with a 4x4 you're going to have problems with the towed car trying to overtake the tug, if/when you brake strongly!
Just checked the towing weight unbraked = 700kg.
Do you think thats too close Paul C ?

To be honest, for shorter distances its going to be not too dissimilar to a car trailer - the stability you lose through the A-frame's connection and no brakes, is offset by the less weight towed and the lower C of G (since the car is on its wheels). For greater distances, I'd use a car trailer because of less weat to the towed car (its wheels running + that constant pull on the wishbones).
