Thieving Yorkshire scum ...

Apologies in advance if I'm posting this in the wrong section, but I don't get on here that often.

Just got back from my workshop having taken a call earlier this morning to say there'd been a break in at the yard where it's located and where I've been restoring my old Scirocco.

Absolutely gutted as the thieving gits have taken nearly everything of any significant value.

Apart from the polybush set all the new parts I've been gathering together have gone including:

FK Silverline coilover set brand new out the box.

Ultimax discs and the Green Stuff pads.

Goodridge High Performance braided hoses.

Girling 54 calipers and matching carriers from Brakes International.

Assorted small parts like new wheel bearings etc.

Golf disc brake set up for the rear.

As well as the above bits and bobs, they also took several other new parts that I'd not bothered to photograph like the new front suspension arms and the necessary handbrake cables for the rear disc conversion.

They also took all of my tools including the new stuff I've been buying as the need has arisen like my Halfords professional socket set.

Ring Compact Heavy Duty Cordless Led Inspection Lamp.

Halfords impact socket set.

Halfords impact driver.

Plus my old tool stool, which I've had for years and which was full of old hand tools like screwdrivers etc and a batch of new hand tools like a ratcheting screwdriver set.

And then, just when I thought it could get any worse we realised they'd taken the engine and gearbox too!

Now I'm guessing they just took that for scrap whereas some of the other stuff they might flog through eBay or autojumble. However, to me it's the sentimental value they've stolen as I wanted to keep that part of her original … it feels like they've just ripped the heart out of her!

A quick calculation based on receipts kept shows the cost of what's been nicked at just under £2,000 and to be honest I don't know what I'm going to do now.

Sure, most of what they've taken can be replaced, but whether I can afford to buy it all again is another question entirely. And even if I can it's going to mean the restoration will take a lot, lot longer than anticipated as the parts were bought with money I had available at that time. It could be months before I can make that up.

Gutted don't come close!

Now't anyone can do really other than keep your eyes peeled and your ears open. Sure a lot will go to scrap, but I'm guessing a lot of that new stuff will be sold through autojumble or eBay.

If you come across anything that sounds/looks dodgy please get in touch with me, preferably through the Scirocco Register where I spend most of my time online.

I guess you didn't have insurance?

Did you post pics of the workshop on any forums, on the internet?

How many people know its location?

that must have been a job they were keeping their eye on as theres no way they would pick up an engine.

If i was you id check to see if there are any cameras about and see if you can get a copy of the tape going back a couple of weeks and see if you notice some vans/cars around a few times.

my mate did the same and they ended up spotting a van watching his garage over a couple of days. police checked it out and found the registered address to the van went round and found his car and the bits like engine and so on which wasnt in the car.

worth a try.

such a crap one.

Altho I agree they were properly watching, it only takes 3 people to lift an engine and box into a car/van.  Me and my mate lifter my complete 9a onto a stand before

Really sorry to hear that mate, seems to be happening a lot at the moment. My brother was working late at his unit last thursday night, saw headlights at top of the estate (where he has a yard) went to check cctv and saw two pikeys clipping the padlock, he went racing out to them said "what the **** are you doing?" to which they replied "nothing mate just having a look"  "really with a set of blue boltcroppers and a trailer with the ramps greased?" it was then pointed out that they were on camera and the security guard had logged their reg…….funnily enough they decided to depart! Feel your pain tho mate hope you get your project back on track

Nothing is safe anywhere, Jipo's will get where water can't and they have no fear of getting caught, Police dont want to know because they are too busy dealing with paperwork, we had a gearbox and 2 complete front corners with struts, wishbones, discs and calipers, load of other stuff all nicked from my drive behind locked gates in daylight on a main road the night after we bought em..

To make it worse, the local Police stopped the truck because the driver was on his phone, gave him a warning and photographed his stash which included all our stuff plain and clear but this was 20 minutes before I reported the theft so they let him go!

Neighbour's cctv actually caught em in the act, van make reg number, faces the lot

Vehicle was registered to some Pikey in Walsall so the old Bill said they would be there waiting for him if they didn't catch him en route.

Got a curtousy call about 6 weeks later from Plod saying that they had caught and cautioned the driver but he no longer had my gear..!!

Yeah right they did..! Not even a fine for using his phone!

Chop off their hands like they do in Saudi.

Good luck mate.  :(
